FOSDEM MySQL Community Dinner 2017 – Update

The FOSDEM MySQL & Friends Community Dinner 2017 is sold out. In the first 24 hours of opening up the registration for the dinner, we sold more than 40 of the 63 total tickets!

I quickly wanted to take some time again to thank our sponsors, who help keep this event possible and affordable:

Wondering how to get there from Fosdem?

The venue itself is located very close to the VUB. You can find the route to get there right here.

The total distance from the ULB campus is about 2.3km, so you could walk there, but it might be more comfortable to take the tram.

Tram 7 and 25 depart from the “Cambre Etoile” stop regularly (every few minutes), and will take you up to “Hansen-Soulie”, where you need to get out, and walk the remaining 200m. The tram ride takes about 9 minutes.

For the 63 people that were able to book a ticket for the dinner: see you on Saturday.

MySQL & Friends Community Dinner 2017 – Looking for sponsors

Hi dear MySQL Community,

I would like to start this post by saying thanks to our sponsors:

Unfortunately, we are missing one sponsor and to not increase the ticket price but at the same time keep the level of quality for food then promised and the same diversity for our world famous Belgian beer patrimony, we are still looking for one or two extra sponsors.

If you are interested, please contact @gryp, @dim0, @tomdecooman or myself and we already thank you in advance.

Don’t forget to register for the Community Dinner on eventbrite !

MySQL & Friends Community Dinner 2017

FOSDEM is happening again in Brussels, and as usual, there will there be a MySQL and Friends Devroom. We can’t really imagine having a FOSDEM without having a MySQL and Friends Community Dinner, so here we are again..

Like the last couple of years, we have rented the same private space at ICAB, more detailed directions below.

The listed ticket price includes a selection of Belgian Speciality Beers and food will be Belgian food served by a new (and improved) caterer: Koken Met Klaas.

If you have any dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free,…) please let us know ahead of time when buying the ticket as we need to inform the caterer who wil make the necessary accommodations for you.

The reason we charge money up front is two-fold:
  1. We need to be able to give ourselves a rough estimate of the amount of attendees ahead of time, so we can make sure the caterer prepares enough food for everyone to enjoy. Free signups tend to make that number a bit less reliable. We want to make sure there is enough food to go around for everyone attending!
  2. Stress-free financials on the night of the dinner! We all know the effects of Belgian Beer on arithmetic skills. Flash your ticket, get your food.
  3. Costs went up a lot this year, especially due to the catering we now have (expect very good food!). Therefore we had to raise the ticket prices as well as had to find a couple more sponsors to keep ticket prices reasonably low

We also want to dedicate this event in loving memory of Liz, who is on a road trip and is unlikely to come back to Belgium.

We’re looking forward to meeting you all again at Fosdem and the Community Dinner. See you then!

Once again, we want to thank our generous sponsors, whose help makes this affordable at such a great price.

MySQL & Friends Community Dinner 2016

FOSDEM is once again descending on the ULB in Brussels, and so again will there be a MySQL and Friends Devroom. Tradition calls for a MySQL and Friends Community Dinner, and we certainly aim not to disappoint this year!

Like last year, we’ll be renting the same private space to allow for easy socializing (at ICAB , more detailed directions below).

As such, prepare for an evening of food, drink and jolly conversation rivaling the great feasts of old. Disclaimer: Apart from jolliness, overindulgence on any account can not be blamed on the organizers of this event.

The listed ticket price includes all-you-can-eat Belgian Delicacies (or until we run out… go ahead, we dare you), as well as a great selection of Specialty Beers and other beverages. We’ll make sure that vegetarians will have options available, but anyone intending to join us with special dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, carnivore…), please let us know ahead of time!

In the interest of transparency: The price we’ve set is based on an assumption of a certain amount of people attending, based on last year’s attendance. If the amount of people ends lower than our target, and we end up having a surplus, any remaining funds will be donated to the Fosdem organization.

The reason we charge money up front is two-fold:

  1. We need to be able to give ourselves a rough estimate of the amount of attendees ahead of time, so we can make sure the caterer prepares enough food for everyone to enjoy. 2. Stress-free financials on the night of the dinner! We all know the effects of Belgian Beer on arithmetic skills. Flash your ticket, get your food.
We’re looking forward to meeting you all again at Fosdem and the Community Dinner. See you then!

MySQL & Friends Community Dinner

My dear colleagues,  Liz van DijkDimitri VanoverbekeKenny Gryp, also known as the “Party Team” are organizing the “Fosdem MySQL & Friends Devroom Community Dinner” !

Like last year, we’ll be renting a private space to allow for easy socializing. However, in light of this year’s 20th Anniversary of MySQL in May, as well as MariaDB’s 5th Anniversary in February, we want to take things to the next level, and give the night a true community feel. Our new location is available to us until 2AM, and is part of the ICAB buildings, closer to the ULB (more detailed directions on the eventbrite page).

As such, prepare for an evening of food prepared for the Community, by the Community. That’s right, your hosts will be firing up the pizza ovens and serve you all with the best pizzas Belgium has to offer.

The listed ticket price includes all-you-can-eat pizza (or until we run out… go ahead, we dare you), as well as a great selection of Belgian specialty beers and other beverages. We’ll make sure that vegetarians have plenty of options, but anyone intending to join us with special dietary requirements, please let us know ahead of time!

As you stuff yourselves with glorious amounts of pizza, be sure to leave some room for dessert, as there will be a special birthday surprise in celebration of MySQL’s 20th and MariaDB’s 5th anniversaries.

In the interest of transparency: The price we’ve set is based on an assumption of a certain amount of people attending, based on last year’s attendance. If the amount of people ends lower than our target, and we end up having a surplus, any remaining funds will be donated to the Fosdem organization like last year.

The reason we charge money up front is two-fold:

1) We need to be able to give ourselves a rough estimate of the amount of attendees ahead of time, so we can make sure we buy/prepare enough ingredients for everyone to enjoy. Free signups tend to make that number a bit less reliable. We want to make sure there is enough food to go around for everyone attending!

2) Stress-free financials on the night of the dinner! We all know the effects of Belgian Beer on arithmetic skills. Flash your ticket, get your food.

We’re looking forward to meeting you all again at Fosdem and the Community Dinner. See you then!
